The Oriental Turtle Dove

Yes, you read that right. The Orient has its very own turtle doves, and I find their plumage resembles the patterns seen on the kimonos in old drawings and paintings. What really blows my mind right now, however—leaving me sitting here with a huge question mark over my head—is the fact that in English (Engrish?), it apparently goes by the name “Oriental Turtle Dove” as well! So where exactly does the “turtle” come into the name? It’s baffling—but hey… it is the other side of the world; I’m slowly getting used to it.
