The heron and I.

Out without a tripod again—something you always notice when you have to wait a long time for something. The heron and I had a long standoff—I’d guess 15–20 minutes—until he decided to ignore me and go back to hunting; it took quite a while longer before he actually struck. The weather and background weren’t ideal either, but getting any closer or finding a better angle simply wasn’t possible. We were both standing in the blazing sun; I was dripping with sweat, while he stood in the water, cool and deliberate, snatching up frogs. The busy background is further accentuated by heat haze in the air… Go out in the evening, Falk! Or in the morning—that’s when photographers go out, not when the sun is at its peak.
