Rose-ringed Parakeets
I finally found them on Friday; under a cloudy sky and in a bit of a breeze, three of these amusing birds were perched high up in the trees. At first, I could only hear them—experiencing that classic “damn, where are you?” syndrome—because the calls were coming from the tree right in front of me, yet it took a good few minutes to actually spot them amidst all the greenery. Luckily, one of them flew a bit higher up to a sparser section of the tree. What really surprised me was the difference in behavior: in Düsseldorf, I’ve managed to get within 5–6 meters of them, but here in Ostpark, they seem much shyer and stay high up. I need more time—and perhaps I should bring along a few treats as a peace offering?
